Pratkanis and Aronson do a bang up job of bringing up other bodies of work explaining why they mentioned it THEN telling the reader where they can find out information I read the revised version that came out in 2000 As I read this book in 2020 most of the references in this book are dated as the authors focus on events that happened in the 1990s At the same time given the current election cycle and the rise of things like fake news the 2016 election and Disney s purchase of Fox the messages in this book about understanding news communication persuasion and how democracies should function are applicable at any time This book is dense In fact it s so dense that I was pulled aside for additional screening at TSA while reading it because the agent said it was so thick we couldn t see through
